Our ordinary circuses

A community dance performance by Kata Juhász Company and Cie. Two in One (A)

Our ordinary circuses is a cross-generation family play that’s absolutely not being shy about age groups. It’s an open-air piece yet site-specific, because it uses the setting of street workout parks. It is also open in a sense that the choreographic composition offers active viewers a place to join the scene.

While the players coming from different generations are professionals – including dancers, acrobats, parkour trainers – , joining the activity does not require special skills but is very much worth doing for children or adults alike.

It very much worth it, because the play wishes to move away from the common notion that workout is a lonesome, boring and repetitive ceremony that shows its sacrifice on the altar of beauty or fitness or let’s just say: “good looks”, whereby we just don’t like to be disturbed.

On the contrary, we experiment by the means of choreography and creative utilization of the tools of the park to make collective exercising a fluid and playful activity whereby not only individual acrobatics provide a spectacle for viewers but the choreography itself created by collective movement.
